We are interested to learn about U.S.-based organizations that serve U.S. communities and align with our mission.
We receive a very large number of recommendations and are unable to provide a response or funding for all recommendations submitted. One recommendation per organization is all that is needed for consideration. Organizations that receive multiple recommendations are not advantaged.
Before you make your recommendation, make sure that you read the following criteria:
- Grantees must be based in the U.S. and serve U.S. communities.
- Grantees must have a current 501(c)(3) public charity status or have a fiscal sponsor that has a current 501(c)(3) public charity status.
- Grantees must be aligned with one of the three grantmaking initiatives:
- Connecting People Outside: Connecting historically excluded communities to the outdoors - cultivating joy, healing, belonging, connection and well-being.
- Creating Space Outside: Ensuring people have equitable access to quality, close to home culturally-relevant outdoor spaces.
- Centering Health Outside: Strengthening and amplifying research that demonstrates nature is critical for individual and community health and wellbeing.”
- Grantees need to have a track record of connecting historically excluded communities to the outdoors.
- The REI Cooperative Action Fund does not support individuals, political or religious organizations, preschool -12th-grade schools or endowment campaigns.
